Community-Based Residential Treatment
The Family Solutions Community-Based Residential Treatment Program is designed for high-risk youth with severe emotional and behavioral issues. The clients participate in a therapeutic environment in coordination with individual, group, and family therapy, skill-building as well as a site-based classroom for education. The Cascade House in Medford provides services for adolescent girls, ages 12-20.
Treatment Approach
The Community-Based Residential Program is based on the individual needs of the youth within the context of the home. The multidisciplinary treatment team develops specific behavioral goals and interventions for each youth using the living environment, school, and community as part of the treatment process. The average length of stay is 18 months to two years. The goal is the youth’s returning home, placement in long-term foster care, or emancipation.
Services
This program integrates several treatment modalities, including individual, group, and family counseling; individual and group skill-building activities; structured recreation; building community connections; a site-based classroom for education; supervised academic study time; and vocational training.
In addition to these components, the therapeutic environment is used to stabilize the youths and promote the development of appropriate coping and conflict resolution skills as well as anger control. The youths learn how to improve peer and family relationships.
An individualized planning process determines the specific array of services delivered to each youth. We use a team approach that involves the youth, family members, caseworkers, service providers, and advocates. This process consists of a thorough assessment of the strengths and needs of the youth, identification of desired outcomes, and the services needed to achieve those outcomes.
